My article “The Nachtkalb of Colmar,” is now available in the Myths, Fables, and Folklore double issue of The Quarter(ly). Check it out for intriguing information on the ghostly creature that stalks the street of Colmar, France, as well as on curses, shape-shifting, animals with fire in their eyes, and cow-monsters.

I translated several French- and German-language sources for this article, and undertook a loot of research on the French “bête du village” or village monster, particularly in the region of Alsace for this article. I hope you enjoy it; it’s one of my goals to as a writer to make Alsatian folklore and history more accessible to an English-language audience.
